Making Tax Digital: Understand the changes

At this information session HM Revenue & Customs will explain the changes to income tax assessment and how they may affect you and your service users. Watch this webinar on-demand.

What's covered?

HMRC’s Making Tax Digital for Income Tax campaign supports the biggest change to personal tax since HMRC launched Self Assessment more than 30 years ago.

Instead of filling out their tax return all at once, individuals in scope will need to use recognised software (such as an app on their phone or laptop) to keep digital records of income and expenses throughout the year.

From 6 April 2026, Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax Self-Assessment becomes mandatory for sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000. This threshold will reduce in 2027 and 2028.

This change replaces the traditional annual Self-Assessment tax return with digital record-keeping and quarterly reporting to HMRC using compatible software, modernising the UK tax system and improving accuracy.

We are pleased to be hosting HMRC for this informative webinar about the changes, what to expect and who is affected.

This webinar will give you the knowledge and tools to support individuals confidently throughout the MTD process, including:

  • Understanding the new requirements and phased rollout
  • Key steps: checking qualifying income, choosing compatible software, and  setting up digital records
  • How to answer common queries and guide people through sign-up and quarterly submissions
  • Accessibility and exemption routes for those who need additional support
  • Resources and links to HMRC guidance for ongoing reference

By attending, you’ll be equipped to provide accurate, timely advice and help people transition to Making Tax Digital.
