Get Online Week is almost here!

19/08/2024

Get Online Week is just around the corner and this year we want to see more events, reach more people and make sure everyone knows why that we still need to #FixTheDigitalDivide, even in 2024!

What is Get Online Week?

If you are new to digital inclusion, Get Online Week is our national annual campaign that aims to help people to benefit from the digital world. We’ve been coordinating the campaign since 2007 and since then there have been thousands of community events around the UK helping people to learn new skills, get mobile data and often use the internet for the first time.

Get Online Week aims to raise awareness of digital inclusion at a community and national level through:

  • Mobilising the National Digital Inclusion Network to host events to help people get online
  • Promoting the campaign online and in the media to help people to understand the impact of being digitally excluded, and what support is available

Last year's Get Online Week

Last year, we saw some absolutely brilliant event ideas from members of the network, here are some examples to get your creative juices flowing:

  1. Bollywood Youtube Karaoke
  2. Dave’s Digital Disco
  3. A Spooky Tech Trail
  4. Exploring new worlds with virtual reality
  5. A pakora bake off special

And of course, there were also lots of variations involving food and drink: Techy Tea Party, Coffee, Cake and Computers, IT and Biscuits.

This year...

Refreshments are always a great way to guarantee a crowd, and this year we’re offering a £20 voucher for the first 500 hubs to register an event so that you can provide some treats for your community.

We also have a limited number of merch packs available to hubs that request them, with goodies (including pens, foam boards, posters, calendars) you can use during the event or as prizes for attendees.

This year we’re also going to try something new, as suggested by a member of the network. We'll be offering some live-streamed sessions aimed at people who want to improve their digital skills, which hubs can share with your learners during Get Online Week. Watch this space for more details…
